Another outstanding resource for ambient, celtic, new age, and space music is Hearts of Space.  They carry oodles of artists across a wide variety of electronic and classical genres.  They've been around for a long time broadcasting over the airwaves for years.  Check them out, you won't be dissappointed!

Their radio show is actually how I first got into listening to new music and how I discovered about 99.9% of the music  I have in my CD collection.

A postdoc in one of our labs mentioned this site a few years back and I still haven't given it a spin yet.
I'll check it out.

Hearts of Space is on the local NPR station here on Sunday nights following the Echoes program.  I've listened to each a few times, but I usually forgot to.

Hearts of Space was one of the original radio shows for this genre' of music.  They've expanded their coverage to include other niche genre's, usually but not always relevant to their label.  HoS was my first exposure to ambient music, and those shows in the '80's blew me away.  Compared to what was on commercial radio at that time, this music was an adventure, a study in aural architecture, and a peaceful place to just be.

The other influence for me was a Sunday morning pair of shows on WTUL in New Orleans, Tulane University's radio station.  The "Best of Freret" show deftly moved the audience from the late night thrash metal show into electronic music, ending with artists like Jean Michele Jarre', Ashra, Tangerine Dream, or other similar artists.  It was followed by the light-hearted "Cheez Muzic" show, 3 hours of ambient, New Age, and instrumental music, which has been a staple at 'TUL since the 1970's!  These days its DJ is the same person who runs the New Age Reporter.

I am to stream one radio station that plays most of shows of Echoes of that week on Friday and Saturday, but then plays Hearts of Space afterwards on Saturday night.  Echoes starts on 8pm-12 Eastern Time, but till 11 on Saturday.  Another good radio show which started me discover this station as well as other shows on Live365 is Musical Starstreams.  They even have CDs you can purchase for $10 a piece or some package deals to reduce it a bit, but if you buy over 3 CDs you don't have to pay the shipping and handling if you live in the United States.  They do have some cassettes there as well at least 2 of their choice can be as low as $2 a piece, but you have snail mail with that offer.  Their CDs are from Waveform Records.

After discovering Astreaux World, the first ambient music I bought was the "Dreamy M@ssage" package from Waveform Records.  All Our Ancestors and One Thousand Years by Tuu, Omnimotion's self titled CD, Skin to Skin - Temenos, Open Canvas - Nomadic Impressions, and the Slumberland compilation.

I found a couple of Hearts of Space CDs at the Heritage Store in Virginiastreaux Beach.  Will be picking them up this weekend and getting some tunes on the station that might be interesting...
